Google Algorithm Updates


Google Caffeine:
Caffeine means for indexing the websites according to keywords and whether they are related to keywords are not they don’t need.
Google Hummingbird:
This update was released in August 2013. The purpose of this update was to understand the intent of the user in the query and provide the results best suitable for the user. For example, if you search for keyword: “which is the best business hotel in Hyderabad ?” then hummingbird will understand the intent of the user and provide the results for “best business hotel in Hyderabad” by ignoring the words [which is] and [?] to provide relevantly results.
Panda Update:
Panda update was first released in Feb 2011 and the major purpose of this update is to penalize the website with low quality content or duplicate or thin content which was created only for SEO purpose. In May 2014 Panda 4 was released which has hit many major brand sites like eBay, ask.com, biography.com and many other sites.
Penguin Update :

Penguin update was first released in April 2012. This update targeted the websites using black hat SEO techniques and using over optimization by violating the search guidelines. Later releases of Penguin update has targeted the websites generating links from low-quality sources with keyword reach anchor text.
EMD update :
This update was released by Google on Sep 2012 to target low-quality websites which used exact match domain name sites. The major sites which hit with the update the long tail domains with keywords. Sites like www.buy-best-laptops-online.com were hit with the update. Even some good sites were hit with this update. Example www.pooltables.com has lost the 1st position after EMD Update.
Pigeon Update :
A Pigeon mean which gives more Importance to the local search Results. Ex you use to find the map, location in the Google due to IP Address.

Google: Pirate Update:
Google’s Pirate Update is a filter introduced in August 2012 designed to prevent sites with many copyright infringement reports, as filed through Google’s DMCA system, from ranking well in Google’s listings. The filter is periodically updated. When this happens, sites previously impacted may escape, if they’ve made the right improvements. The filter may also catch new sites that escaped being caught before, plus it may release “false positives” that were caught.
Google: Payday Update:
Launched on June 11, 2013 – the “Payday Update” was a new algorithm targeted at cleaning up search results for traditionally “spammy queries” such as [payday loan], pornographic and other heavily spammed queries.
Google Mobile Friendly Update:
On April 21, 2015, Google will release a significant new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm that’s designed to give a boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google’s mobile search results.
Google: Top Heavy Update:
Top Heavy was launched in January 2012 by Google as a means to prevent sites that were “top heavy” with ads from ranking well in its listings. Top Heavy is periodically updated. When a fresh Top Heavy Update happens, sites that have removed excessive ads may regain lost rankings. New sites deemed too “top heavy” may get caught.
